2018 Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

Now approaching our third full season as a farm, and having such momentum from the last two seasons because of the encouraging commitment of our members, we are thrilled to offer our CSA program again in 2018 and can't wait for the season to begin!

The CSA model allows us to supply you with the freshest produce, and for a face and a farm to be associated with the food that you eat. We think that is something missing in grocery stores, yet is so meaningful. By agreeing to share in the harvest with us, you can know that you're actively supporting the local food system and economy, all while enjoying the tastiest and healthiest food you can eat! In addition to produce, you will receive weekly recipes, a newsletter that details the inner-workings of farm-life (written by one of your farmers who has an MFA in Creative Writing), access to tours and events on the farm, and other little perks and gifts for being our valued members!

In 2018, we are thrilled to be offering the Full Season option, and expanding our season to total 30 weeks, from Friday, May 4th to Wednesday, November 21st (Thanksgiving Week). Members will be with us for 30 continuous weeks and, through this process, they will share in the harvest, stories, and the undulations of the seasons. Full season members will have access to the option of adding eggs to their share, with 10 egg-shares available. The Full Season option is for Peck and Bushel sizes, and will be notably the best value that we offer!

We will continue to offer the Split Seasons option for members who may not be able to participate for a full season with us. The Spring/Summer season will run 20 weeks, from Friday, May 4th to Friday, September 14th. The Fall season will be 10 weeks, beginning Friday, September 21st and ending Wednesday, November 21st (Thanksgiving week).

Customization/WEEKLY PREFERENCES

Typically in a CSA the farmer chooses all of the items in the weekly share, doing their best to maintain a variety throughout the season. This can lead to weeks where some customers may receive only one or two of their favorite vegetables, instead of having an amount of choice over items they prefer. Our CSA offers choice to its members, in the knowledge that not everyone likes the same vegetables and that it shouldn't be entirely up to us as farmers to choose the produce members receive each week!

At the beginning of each week of the CSA season, members receive an email with a link listing the contents of the week's share. Below this will be a simple checklist form with a few choices of vegetables - whether between two comparable vegetables or two varieties of the same vegetable. The form submission is optional and if a member chooses not to submit it, we will provide a "set box" with a variety that we will select from the options that week. Due to the nature of the harvest season, some weeks will have less "choice" than others, but there will always be some. There are many weeks in which far more vegetables are available on the farm than the seven that end up in a CSA share, so we want members to have a say in what they receive!

Eggs

This year, thanks to our flock of Rhode Island Red and Plymouth Barred Rock hens, you will be able to add eggs to your weekly share. Our ladies are pasture-raised and fed 100% organic, non-GMO whole grain feed. These eggs are good. For 2018, we will be offering egg-shares initially to our Full Season CSA shares only, for a total of 10 egg-shares. If not all of the egg-shares are taken by Full Season members by the start of either the Spring/Summer or the Fall, we will open this option again to all members. Make sure to sign up for this option as soon as you can, as we will offer on a first-come first-serve basis. We are hoping to purchase more chicks in the near future - they are just too precious!

Pickup and Delivery

Below are the different options for you to receive your weekly share this year:

1. Pickup at Colony Urban Farm Store, Winston-Salem

2. Pickup at Let It Grow Produce, Winston-Salem

3. Pickup in New Sherwood Forest neighborhood, Winston-Salem

4. Pickup at York Farm, Mount Airy

5. Home/Office Delivery

6. Pickup at Whole Foods Market, SouthPark Charlotte

Each week, you will be able to claim your weekly box after 12 p.m. on Fridays from the Colony and Let It Grow locations.

Pickup for Charlotte members will also be after 12 p.m. on Fridays.

Home and office delivery is available for an additional $150 fee.

Missing a Week

We understand that many people travel and might be unable to use their share while they're gone. We simply ask that you let us know no later than a week before the delivery date that you will miss. In order that you don't feel "trapped" in a commitment and that your vegetables don't go to waste, we're offering a few options.

1. Double your share the week before/after or any other week during the season.

2. Share with a friend!

3. Receive vegetables that you particularly like in bulk (if available), valued at the cost of the share(s) you miss.

Splitting a Share

If you would like to split a share with someone else, please indicate so on the registration form and provide the email address of the person with whom you wish to share.

Payment

Full Season

Our 2018 Full Season will run 30 weeks. The cost of the Full Season for the Peck size share is valued at $900 and the Bushel size share is valued at $1,200. But, we are offering these options at a generously discounted rate of $750 for Peck and $1,000 for Bushel because we absolutely believe in the benefit of members joining us for the entire season. There is so much growth during that time that is full of excitement — what crops are starting to bloom, the endurance of work and love that goes into the full spectrum of different times of year, and the ability to see and hear about the farm for the duration of the growing season — that we can share in together.

We ask that you pay either a deposit of $400, when you register, or the entire balance. It's a difficult thing for us to ask, but if you could pay the full amount by the start date of the CSA, it really would help us to ensure the success of the season and offset our initial costs that happen during this time. At the same time, we are absolutely happy to accept payment in installments! Installments can fit your lifestyle with the option of paying monthly or paying in two or three additional installments after the deposit. If you would like to pay your deposit by check, click here instead of going through the payment buttons below. If you choose home delivery, the cost of that must be sent separately as a check, also.

Fall

Our 2018 Fall season will run 10 weeks. The cost of the Peck sized share is $300, and the cost of the Bushel sized share is $400. We ask that you pay a deposit of $200 when you register and pay the remainder in either one or two installments by the fifth delivery date. You can pay the deposit or full amount below, by choosing your preferred size and filling out the registration form. We are absolutely happy to accept payment in installments!
